The Hunters Point Civic Association collected 3,600 pounds of food and critical items to donate to food pantries this holiday season, according to president Brent O’Leary.

This marks the HPCA’s second annual holiday drive, which exceeded last year’s donations by 300 pounds.

The donations were distributed to local food pantries at St. Raphael’s, Bread of Life and Hour Children, according to O’Leary.

“I was amazed at the generosity of the neighborhood,” O’Leary said. “It’s wonderful that people come together this time of year and help out the less fortunate.”

Collection boxes were placed in offices and residential buildings throughout Queens and Manhattan, starting three weeks ago.

“We would actually go around in our cars and drop off the posters, flyers [and] boxes at all these different venues and they would call us whenever they were filled,” O’Leary said. “We’ve got it down to a science now, so we’re hoping to increase each year.”

He added that collection boxes were put out and picked up with help from the Lions Club of Astoria/LIC, the Gantry Parent Association, the 108th Precinct and the Emerald Guild Society.
