Craft beer fans can explore Long Island City’s local brews during a 10-day, self-led brewery crawl starting tomorrow.
Big Alice Brewing, LIC Beer Project, Rockaway Brewing Company and Transmitter Brewing will host the brewery crawl from Aug. 14 to Aug. 23.
The event will be similar to a brewery crawl that Big Alice, Rockaway and Transmitter held in February. Participants can pick up free “beer passports” at any of the four breweries, to be stamped at each venue. The crawls are self-led and can be completed at any time during operating hours.
Participants will pay for their drinks, although small free samples are available.
“Each of our breweries specialize in very different styles,” Justine Yeung of Rockaway Brewing Company said. “We’re still in the same industry but it’s a little friendly competition between all of us.”
Rockaway Brewing Company, which was born as a homebrew in Far Rockaway, specializes in easy drinking beers. Big Alice Brewing is a State Farm brewery that uses local ingredients to produce small batch beers. Transmitter Brewing specializes in wild and farmhouse ales. LIC Beer Project debuted in May and specializes Belgian-style beers.
Brewery crawl participants can drop off their passports at any of the four locations before Aug. 23, to be entered into a raffle.
There will be 10 raffles winners, with prizes from T-shirts to growlers to private tours. Participants can also compete on social media; the favorite Instagram photo hashtagged #LICBreweryTour will win a special prize.
“I feel like we get a mix of both regulars – because we have so many high rises around us – and then also people that are coming out for the first time,” Yeung said. “[The brewery crawl] is just something fun to get people out and experience all that Long Island City has to offer.”

LIC Beer Project, 39-28 23rd St. Rockaway Brewing Company, 46-01 5th St.
Transmitter Brewing, 53-02 11th St.
