NYPD rescue Good Samaritan and lieutenant after teens get stuck in water

gantparkskylineviewAug. 1, 2015 By Christian Murray

A rescue crew plucked a man and a 108 precinct lieutenant out of the East River last night, after a Good Samaritan had jumped into the water to help rescue three teens off Gantry Plaza State Park, according to police.

The incident occurred at about 7:30 pm shortly after the teens had jumped into the water and found themselves in difficulty. A Good Samaritan jumped in to help one of the teens but got stuck in the water himself.

The teens were able to make it to shore.

A witness called 911 and a lieutenant from the 108 precinct quickly came down and threw a floatation device to the man and then jumped into the water after him, police said. Both got stuck.

The FDNY and NYPD rescue crew picked them up floating in the river.
