A new hair salon focused solely on children will soon be opening in Hunters Point.
The barbershop/salon, to be aptly called LIC Kids Cuts, will be located at 10-91A Jackson Ave, according to co-owner Larry Santana.
Santana will be opening the salon May 16 with his wife, Vera Santana. The couple will offer haircuts and hairstyling for kids ranging in age from six months to 18 years.
There will be two stations. One will be a chair shaped like a car or airplane for younger children. The second will be a standard seat for bigger children.
The price of a haircut is still being determined, although Larry Santana said that in Manhattan it can cost anywhere from $28 to $36.
“We will be cheaper than that,” he said. “It will likely cost anywhere between $20 and $26 here.”
The salon will be open from 10 am to 6 pm, seven days a week, and will accept walk-ins and appointments.
Customers will receive a bonus card, which will be punched after every haircut. After five haircuts, the sixth one will be free.
The salon will also act as a boutique for kids, selling hats, books, and hair products, such as shampoos, conditioners and detanglers.
It will also be used to host birthday parties, Santana said.
“We can do spa days for girls,” he said.
Vera Santana will be the main stylist but the two will also hire another stylist.
Vera Santana has been cutting children’s hair for nearly 15 years, working at Doodle Doo’s in the West Village for four years and Apple Seeds in Chelsea for two years.
The couple owned their own children’s salon in Huntington, Long Island, about 10 years ago, but sold the business when they moved to Florida.
They moved to LIC about five years ago, but quickly noticed the need for a children’s salon.
“We love this neighborhood, it’s a great place to live,” Larry Santana said. “We have some children’s stores but no hair salons.”
“LIC needs this, there is nothing like it,” he added.
Santana expects the salon to be a big attraction for both parents and kids living in LIC. To help spread the word he will be distributing fliers, which include a coupon for a haircut once he opens.
He said he plans on attending the LIC Flea and Food in coming weeks and handing fliers out.
“We will start that this weekend or the following one,” he said.

Nope……you are so very sad………….how is that crappy basement apartment working out for you, Some people who actually can afford it enjoy treating themselves and their children to more than the basic 3 squares a day…..I think that is gross
This is great – though I’d like to suggest that those of you who have a car make the trip to Mesmeric Children’s Salon in Ridgewood – its not far at all if you can drive. A kid’s haircut is 16 bucks – a BARGAIN. And she does a wonderful job.
