Mexican Restaurant to Open at Former Re Pub LIC 50 Site Next Month

10-09 50th Ave., upcoming location for Corazon de Mexico. (NYC ZOLA)

Feb. 14, 2018 By Nathaly Pesantez

A Mexican restaurant with roots in Woodside is planning on opening just off Vernon Boulevard in the coming weeks.

Corazon de Mexico, the name of the new restaurant, will open at 10-09 50th Ave., taking over the site occupied by Re Pub LIC 50 until 2016.

The restaurant will seat close to 80 people, and aims to offer a variety of authentic Mexican dishes, including staples like burritos, tacos, and enchiladas guacamole, and several meat and seafood entrees. Soups, salads, appetizers, and dessert will also be offered at the site.

Former site of Re Pub LIC, to be taken over by Corazon de Mexico.

The price range for an entree and a drink will range from $30 to $45. The restaurant is also working to get its full liquor license in order to serve beers, wine, and cocktails.

The menu items are similar to what was offered at La Adelita, a Mexican restaurant and bakery in Woodside that closed last year after the property owner filed plans to bulldoze the site and develop a residential building there.

Maria Iglesias, the owner of the upcoming restaurant, said it was difficult to find a new location that would accommodate both a restaurant and a bakery, and decided on moving the restaurant operations to Long Island City and keeping the bakery in Woodside. The bakery has retained the former’s restaurant’s name.

The two sites, however, will share the same logo depicting an “adelita”, the name given to women combatants of the Mexican Revolution.

Iglesias says the Hunters Point location is far larger than the Woodside spot, and that they may be installing fountains with lights due to the restaurant’s high ceilings.

Iglesias, who has more than 20 years of experience in the restaurant industry, plans on opening the restaurant from 11 a.m. until 11:30 p.m. on weekdays, and until 2 a.m. on weekends.

Well, they’ve opened, and the prices are pretty normal, making most commenters here look like fucking idiots. Typical LIC Post.

Yeah, downvote me all you want, but it’s sad that most of you will never try this restaurant because of unsubstantiated info about its prices that was shared months before it opened and turned out to be wrong. Where are all the people who were complaining about “three tacos costing $45” even though that’s total bullshit?

I tried to find some info about this place, and this article is one of the first results that come up—anybody who just takes this article and its comments at face value will never try this restaurant even though you’re all wrong. Good job making the world a slightly more ignirant, stupid place.

Well?

Your poor spelling is what is contributing to making the world more ignorant. I may or may not try this place as I get limited opportunity to eat put, but your unwillingness to provide an opinion of your meal there definitely doesn’t help their case any more than this article does.

Yes, making fun of phone typos is incredibly relevant to this conversation. I never said I had been to the restaurant. I’m commenting on the prices, which are available to see on the menu now and are cheaper than what everyone was preemptively complaining about. Stop trying to change the subject. Diversion (to the quality of the food and to my spelling) is a tactic you use when you’ve exhausted any good arguments you might’ve had.

Well?

It’s hard to have a good argument or debate when the opponent is unworthy and impolite.

Doesn’t seem like we would agree on the taste of food either, so it’s cool that you haven’t been and have nothing more to offer us here.

There’s only one great Mexican restauraunt in LIC, and it’s not on Center Blvd.
Why do we need another one with these prices. I can go to a many other places for that price level. This spot is also cursed. Nothing survives there.
Good luck.

oh! Duh!!! I guess i just think of Casa in a different category, since it’s more refined mexican, vs Burritos. You know? But I totally agree that it is delicious!

The Menu, talks Restaurant not even open. By the way, it could be the appetizer, entree and alcoholic drink range that price. Judge from your experience not from paparazzi.

Dios mío $45 for some tacos and beans and rice? They must be loco. Me and MRLIC wouldn’t even charge that much for monthly “protection” fees for local businesses when we were running our extortion racket. The local bowling alleys got to be protected and MRLIC saved up enough money to buy a used laptop so he could make internet comments, it was a win-win.

“The price range for an entree and a drink will range from $30 to $50.”

Did I read correctly that this is a Mexican restaurant? In Queens?

The price is actually in line with what you end up paying at several restaurants in the area…I image the entrees envisioned are more than just 3 tacos. Think $15-30 for the entree, with some sort of top shelf protein at the high end. Add to that a $12-16 drink, and there you are.
