An Italian restaurant that focuses heavily on pizza opened its doors yesterday in the Court Square section of Long Island City.

Levante, located at 26-21 Jackson Avenue, serves pizza cooked at high temperatures in a wood burning oven as well as pasta and typical Italian fare.

The restaurant is located inside an old brick building–owned by Rockrose–and comes with a 1,000 square foot dining room, a 16-seat bar, a 1,000 square foot backyard and a 350 square foot private dining room.

Co-owner Eden Tesfamariam Gaim said Levante is currently open from 12 to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday and is offering diners a limited menu for the next few weeks until it gets its liquor license. These items include salads and paninis.

However, once the bar is open, the restaurant’s hours will be 12 p.m. to 11 p.m. Monday through Thursday, 12 p.m. to midnight on Friday, 10:30 a.m. to midnight on Saturday and 10:30 a.m. to 10 p.m. on Sunday.

The owners of Levante operate Luzzo’s BK in Brooklyn Heights and are planning on opening a restaurant in Park Slope.

Tesfamariam Gaim and her partners–Antonio Giaccio and Tony D’aiuto—were drawn to Court Square due to the residential boom and the influx of people that will bring.

“It’s a neighborhood that’s in need of restaurants,” she said.

Court Square blog was first to report the opening.

As a long time LIC resident I am thrilled to welcome Levante to the neighborhood. We must all support local business and give it a try!

Looking forward to trying their Pizza. I love Luzzo’s in the city, but they have a coal oven, which I personally believe is key to delicious pizza. I hope this place is just as good.
