Hunters Point Sees More Closures as New City Kitchen, Luxy Lady, Go Out of Business

New City Kitchen at 47-13 Vernon Blvd.

Jan. 5, 2018 By Nathaly Pesantez

It’s a rough start to 2018 for two Hunters Point businesses that appear to be closed for good.

New City Kitchen, the Chinese take-out spot at 47-31 Vernon Blvd., left a note at the window thanking its patrons who stopped by over its 10-years run in Long Island City.

“It has been our pleasure to be part of this community,” reads part of the note at the window. “We will miss you, Long Island City. Thank you.”

The restaurant was supposed to close in 2015, but the owners negotiated a lease that would let them stay for at least three years, the LIC Post previously reported. It is unclear what day the restaurant closed up shop.

Meanwhile, the interior of Luxy Lady, the hair salon and spa at 10-17 Jackson Ave., has been cleared out entirely. The salon opened in May 2016, and offered high-end hair, nail, and beauty services.

Luxy Lady’s closing date is also unclear. Calls to the salon’s listed number were unsuccessful, as the line appears to be disconnected. The salon’s web page also appears offline, and its last social media postings were made in late October 2017.

Tiny you was also voluntarily going out of business – the owners were moving to like colorado or something. I believe she tried to sell the business, but there were no takers.

Luxy packed up a uhaul the last week of Dec and New City closed a few days later. We could really use a great Chinese restaurant around here!! Dim sum would be amazing.

I’m so bummed about Luxy Lady! I loved getting pedicures (and a glass of prosecco) there 🙁

What a shame. Was it the rents as in some other closings? As I said before one closes and one opens. No stability. Not a good measure for a neighborhood.
