Halloween in LIC, the massive, jam-packed day of activities through the neighborhood is returning for yet another “spooktacular” day in a little over a week.
The hallmark “Trick-or-Treat March” is set for Sunday, Oct. 29 at 12 p.m., where participants will parade through seven blocks along a stretch of Vernon Boulevard and interact with store fronts and businesses along the corridor, leading to a haunted house with live music, food, and drink toward the end of the parade route.
Parade participants will line up in front of the 108 Precinct at 5-47 50th Ave. and march to the corner of Vernon Boulevard, where the parade will continue from 50th Avenue up to 46th Avenue. Marchers will make a right on 46th Avenue toward the parade’s end at 5th Street.
All store fronts in the stretch will be giving out candies and treats all day, and a select number of establishments will dole out unique activities—Modern Spaces at 47-42 Vernon Blvd. will have a Wonder Woman Photo Booth, and the nearby Halstead at 47-12 Vernon Blvd. will have a “special surprise” for participants.
A monster mash with a live DJ, a pumpkin patch, and fortune-telling sorcerers (taken on by volunteer local moms), will be throughout 46th Ave between Vernon Boulevard and 5th Street. The YMCA will also bring a Scholastic book fair to the event.
A haunted house will be on 46th Avenue and Vernon Boulevard, opposite the Paragon Paint building on 45-40 Vernon Boulevard, which was used for the haunted house in prior years but is now under construction. Kids and families, however, can still line up just outside the Paragon building to take spooky photos.
Councilmember Jimmy Van Bramer will be the parade’s Grand Marshall, and will march with Captain Ralph Forgione of the 108th precinct. State Senator Mike Gianaris and Assemblywoman Catherine Nolan will also be in attendance.
Prior to the parade, LIC Dental and LIC Kids will be hosting a free pre-party on 50th Avenue and 5th Street , where kids can get their faces painted, take photos in a photobooth, win raffle prizes, and more. The Gantry Loft at 2-03 Borden Avenue will also host a Halloween Party after 2 p.m.
The Halloween in LIC event was done in collaboration with P.S. 78’s Spooktacular Festival, an event that usually happens on a separate day, but joined with Cerbone-Teoli’s event for a larger day of festivities for all kids and families, according to Gianna Cerbone-Teoli, the event’s organizer who has been planning Halloween events in Long Island City for over a decade.
Last year’s event saw over 4,000 people, a number which Cerbone-Teoli expects to see this year, too.
“This is a very safe Halloween event for kids,” Cerbone-Teoli said. “It’s the one time they can just be free and run around.” All activities are expected by wrap up by 5 p.m.

For crying out loud. It’s a Halloween parade for little kids. Do these self-serving politicians have to take credit for everything? Get Batman or Wonder Woman to be the Grand Marshall.
Wonder Woman wasn’t invited – politicians are frightened by her lasso of truth. 🙂

These HIPSTER kids have it lucky, candy for Halloween! Back in my day my old man would let me have the cigarette butts out of the ashtrays in his bowling alley on Halloween, and that was only after I had completed my 12-hour shift polishing the lanes.
These days I just dress up as a luxury condo to scare the kids. I’m not surprised Jimmy Van LAMER is attending the event so he can indoctrinate the children into becoming libruls. Fortune-telling sorcerers, seriously?! If I wanted to be bored to death I’d just stay home and read brooklynmc’s comments.
