Court Square has its own civic association.

The Court Square Civic Association was founded in December in an attempt to bring the residents of that section of Long Island City together, according to president and founder Amadeo Plaza.

Plaza hopes to create a small town feel in the Court Square area.

“I wanted to create something that just lets people voice their opinions or complaints, but also creates a sense of community,” he said.

“I love Long Island City,” he added. “I want to leave my mark on it.”

Plaza is working on defining the region that the civic association will address but boundaries are tentatively set east of 11th Street, north/west of Jackson Avenue and south of Queens Plaza North.

He was hesitant to discuss specifics of the civic association’s future activity because they are still in the early planning stages. However, he said he envisions hosting community events in Court Square to give people a reason to stay in the neighborhood and to take advantage of everything the area has to offer.

The civic association is currently looking for a venue to host these meetings.

Plaza believes the civic association will also provide residents with the opportunity to meet their neighbors. Despite the fact that many Court Square residents live close together, even in the same large towers, the neighborhood lacks a feeling of closeness, he said.

“There are a lot of people that don’t even leave their buildings,” he said. “They can go to the gym, play basketball, watch a movie, in their buildings.”

“Many residents leave their buildings just to go to the train,” he added.

While Long Island City has the Dutch Kills Civic Association and the Hunters Point Civic Association, Plaza identified a need for one in Court Square as well.

“Each neighborhood is like its own community within a community,” he said.

The civic association’s board is currently made up of four members, including Plaza’s wife, Noelia Plaza, who is the Secretary. Mani Limbert and Anthony Perez are the other board members. They are in the process of adding a fifth board member.

Mr. Plaza if that is the case all well and good. The development must stop and stop now. LIC is slowly turning into Manhattan. (Overcrowded and dirty).

Face it – LIC is going to be just like Manhattan. There really isn’t anything you can do about it.

Not a bad idea, but what is there to offer in Court Square/LIC area? A sculpture event, Rock climbing, wow. Where are the stores. How about stop building all these Hotels and Luxury Condos all over the place. Let Residents see the sun. A nice athletic field for mens softball/baseball (Murray Playground is a Girls softball/soccer field ). Use the space we have wisely not just for OVERDEVELOPMENT.

We got a future Leslie Knope on our hands… Awesome work, as usual, kid. Soon enough: Mayor of Queens.
