The Department of Transportation is looking into converting 5th Street (between 46th Road and 50th Avenue) into a one-way street, arguing that it is too narrow as a two-way street.

Dalila Hall, in a presentation before Community Board 2 last week, said that the street is only 30 feet wide and poses safety concerns. “When cars are parked on both sides of 5th Street, there’s only 16-18 feet for two-way traffic,” she said. “That can be harrowing.”

She said the department is looking into changing 5th Street into a one-way street with a north to south flow to it. Additionally, speed bumps at 48th and 49th Avenues might be added.
