‘ Naked Lady Hour comes back to The Creek & the Cave

By Bill Parry

The Creek and the Cave, a well-known Long Island City restaurant/comedy club, rarely charges a cover.

However, this Saturday night, it’s going to be different. It’s featuring: “The Nearly Naked Lady Hour,” a raucous comedy that features stand-up comics, nude woman and a naked-lady band.

The cost of a VIP ticket is $10, which comes with good seating and free booze. All of the ticket sales will go to the comedians.

The club, however, typically doesn’t charge an entrance fee– and it is for a reason.

“We put on a hundred shows a month and it takes the pressure off the comedians– so they’re willing to take more chances,” said Rebecca Trent, the owner. Additionally, “the audience won’t feel ripped off if the act falls flat.”

The club is located at 10-93 Jackson Ave and features a California-style Mexican restaurant with a bar downstairs and a patio in the back. “It’s the restaurant that keeps us afloat,” Trent said.

Trent, a Long Island City resident, bought the venue in 2006. Back then it was home to punk rock and Reggaeton performances. Within a year Trent switched to comedy. “Comedians are much more fun to work with,” she said.

The artists feel comfortable at The Creek and the Cave and its reputation draws big names from time-to-time, including Louis CK, Jerry Seinfeld and Colin Quinn. “They know that if they come in, they’re guaranteed stage time,” Trent said.

Colin Quinn has a close relationship with the club. The former Saturday Night Live star tried new material in front of audiences there in preparing for his one-man show. “He’s our comedian in residence,” Trent said.

Several special shows are scheduled over the holiday season. The Fruitcake Festival is scheduled for December 15th and on December 21 it’s The End of the World Party.
